Now that your kids are home from school and summer is here, you are probably looking for some fun things to do as a family. Luckily, you won’t have to travel far to get what you need. There are plenty of summer activities near Monroe to keep you and your family busy all summer long. Here are some highlights.
- Summer Solstice Paddle. Watch the sunset over the lake on the longest day of the year. Head to Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge on June 21. Bring your own kayak or canoe or reserve one for $10/person.
- Miss Louisiana Pageant. Cheer on your favorite contestants at this annual pageant. It runs from June 21 – 23, at the Monroe Civic Center. Friday night features a fun, hit variety show that is sure to leave you impressed.
- Float the Ouachita. This annual event is always a highlight of the summer. All non-motorized floating devices are welcome. You can even build your own. Be sure to arrive at the Forsythe Boat Dock before 10 a.m. on June 24, so you don’t miss out on any of the fun.
- Bayou Black Open Rodeo. Get a day filled with high-flying rodeo fun. This exciting event will be held at the Monroe Civic Center on July 28. You can watch calf roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling, and bareback bronc riding.
